In this project we will assess Medicare beneficiaries access to primary care services provided by nurse practitioners; and collect costs and reimbursement data through survey and the analysis of secondary data. Our plan is to survey primary care *nurse practitioners* using in a similar methodology to that for the 2008 primary care doctors survey. In addition to the questions asked about Medicare access we will inquire about costs and revenues and reimbursements related to operating a practice, and the mix of patients and encounters by payer. We will also explore how many nurse practitioners have entered the market over the past year and how many hours a year they work and compare that to compensation to begin to estimate the characteristics of the nurse practitioner supply curve.
